[e2e] Technology marches forward at the expense of the net?

If you are using let's say RED queue in byte mode and not in packet mode (in
packet mode you can use the ECN bit information on the codec) it seems that
dynamic coding schemes combined with TCP friendly behaviour can avoid the
"restrictions" of TCP, namely, the interactions between packet loss and RTT
It would also be extremely interesting if the size of the workload and the
coding scheme can be seen as two orthogonal problems, but is it possible?.
Is there any work published for unicast using these two ideas?
