If so, then the current sockets API is out of conformance with the Host
Requirements RFC of October 1989 (see RFC 1122, sections 3.4 and
4.2.4).  [Not arbitrary, but close enough.]

(This is only a single shot in a war between operating system people
and networking people that has been going on since about 1970... ;-))
