Sorry to pop your cartoonish socialist view of the world, but network 
vendors have every right to exercise whatever control they think is
appropriate over what happens inside THEIR networks.

If you don't like what they're doing you have a choice of switching to 
another (more reasonable from your point of view) vendor, or building your 
own network, and competing with them.  If you're right, you'll be able to 
deliver services people want at lower costs, and drive the control freaks
out of the market.
